Zen.

"See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time."

- Robin Williams.

150.

Saw about half of 300 with Anja yesterday, which was cool because we missed out all the talking stuff and got straight to the KILLING.

The movie was fine, though at times it looked like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Leni Riefenstahl's Olympia.

I can see where the controversy comes from, but the depiction of each side is due to the film being an adaptation of a comic book, where the Spartans are elevated to Superheroes (chiseled bodies, capes and all). Likewise, the Persians are portrayed as demonic Supervillains riding 50 foot tall elephants and wearing masks to hide hideously deformed faces. The style worked well as a graphic novel, but not as a historical epic movie with real actors. On the other hand, being so far over the top was probably the reason 300 was even allowed to be released. Otherwise we would never have seen the severed heads, trees made of corpses and rape featured in the film.

To put it more succinctly, 300: serious fucking business.

Japanese Ladies' Sex Manual Warns Against Foreign Penises.

Still in print, this manual compares foreign penis sizes, and warns its intended female audience that having relations with foreigners is problematic because "they don't have money", "their temperament is too strong", "they want a lot of sex", and "there are a lot of junkies".

Japanese Diplomat Knows His Shit.

CNN:

Blond, blue-eyed Westerners probably can't be as successful at Middle East diplomacy as Japanese with their "yellow faces," Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso was quoted by media as saying on Wednesday.

"Japan is doing what Americans can't do," the Nikkei business daily quoted the gaffe-prone Aso as saying in a speech.

"Japanese are trusted. If (you have) blue eyes and blond hair, it's probably no good," he said.

"Luckily, we Japanese have yellow faces."

Sharia Law Invoked in German Court, Battered Wife Refused Divorce. WTF.

A clear cut case of IRL trolling from the anonymous judge. She didn't even get the law right.

AFP:

A German woman judge has refused a Moroccan-born woman permission to file for divorce by interpreting the Koran as allowing husbands to beat their wives.

"Where are we living? Woman judge allows beating in marriage... and invokes the Koran," said a front-page headline in Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper, reflecting the widespread angry reaction on Thursday.

"This Moroccan woman has the same right to protection from a violent husband as any German woman. Anything else would be misconceived sensitivity to the benefit of the husband and would amount to racist discrimination against the wife," said the Tageszeitung daily.

The Central Council of Muslims in Germany also condemned the decision.

"The judge should have made a decision based on the German constitution instead of the Koran," said spokeswoman Nurhan Soykan, who said that violence and mistreatment, regardless of the gender of the victim, were also grounds for divorce in the Islamic world.

A court in the western city of Frankfurt on Wednesday upheld a complaint of bias against the judge lodged by the lawyer of the 26-year-old woman, who has two children.

The woman had filed for immediate divorce on the grounds that the husband, also of Moroccan origin, regularly beat her and threatened to kill her. The claims were backed up by a police report.

But the female judge, who has not been named, made clear in a letter that the wife's bid had little chance of approval because, according to her, Islamic law allowed a man to strike his wife.

German politicians from all parties were united in disgust at the judgement.

MMORPG Maker Demanded Players Pay For Subscription With Blood.

Shanghai Daily:

Authorities yesterday censured an online games company that offered to unfreeze the accounts of players banned for cheating if they donated blood.

The Moliyo Online Media & Entertainment portal persuaded dozens of its players to give blood on Sunday at a blood collection vehicle at Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall in what it said was a move to discourage the use of cheat programs in its games.

Cheat programs help players skip levels or accumulate experience points, but are unfair to other users. Earlier this month, Moliyo blocked the accounts of about 100,000 players who had used cheat programs.

Sunday's blood drive helped boost donations at the Nanjing Road collection point to 200, compared to 30 to 50 on a normal day.

But the Shanghai Blood Administration Office ruled the drive inappropriate, because it went against the voluntary creed of blood donating.
